Heterosis has been used extensively in many varieties of cross-flowered and self-pollinating crops, greatly contributing to the production of major crops. The discovery of wild-type male sterile lines and photo-thermo-sensitive male sterile lines of rice made the implementation of three-line and two-line hybrid rice and its application a reality, which provided many enlightenments for the utilization of heterosis in both theory and practice.
