由中国地质大学(武汉)已故教授潘别桐负责的、武汉钢铁学院、湖北省博物馆等十几家单位共同完成的“大冶钢录山古铜矿遗址原地保护与合理采矿方案论证报告”荣获 1993年度湖北省科技进步一等奖。 铜录山古铜矿遗址是国家重点文物保护单位,是我国迄今发现的连续生产时间最长、采选冶兼备、保存最完整的古矿冶遗址.确保遗址的安全和永久保存,已引起世人瞩目. 依据国务院《关于研究铜录山铜矿遗址保护问题的会议纪要》的精神和湖北省人民政府办公厅鄂办函要求。中国地质大学(武汉)已故教授潘别桐、武汉钢铁学院李征夫教授等开展了一系列的综合研究,并提出了“大冶钢录山古铜矿遗址原地保护与合理采矿方案论证报告”。该报告从社会历史、科学价值、古铜矿遗址的不可再生、不能替代及赋存的地质环境的物理和化学作用对原地保护的巨大作用等方面,充分论证了古铜矿遗址原地保护的必要性和不可搬迁性。
