该项研究,目的在于探索我国开展林木无性系育种的可能性和潜力,开辟林木树种改良的新途径。针对世界集约经营林业的发展对传统林木育种的冲击,笔者1974年首先提出了“有性杂交创造变异和无性系选育利用”、“群体基础上的无性系选择和无性系选择基础上的群系利用”的理论,并根据这些理论研究了杉木、白榆、刺槐、油茶等树无性系选育策略和应用技术。历经15年,取得了显著的遗传增益:刺槐、白榆优良无性系材积生长超过对照40—70%;油茶亩产油量成倍增加;多无性系造林60万亩,证明林木无性系选种有广阔前景。
