From November 20 to November 23, 1997, he was invited to attend the annual meeting and symposium of the American Chinese Teachers’ Association in Nashville, Tenn., USA. Since the reform and opening up, the exchanges between China and foreign countries have been more frequent and the overseas Chinese teaching has been developing continuously. In just 4 days in the United States, I personally experienced “Chinese fever.” In the past, there were more Chinese teachers in the United States than the United States, with more teachers in Taiwan. This time, I found that there are more Chinese teachers from mainland China than from Taiwan teachers. However, regardless of the region from the motherland, its common goal is to promote Chinese culture, promote Chinese and integrate Chinese language and culture into American language and culture. During the conference, several teachers talked about the fact that the Nobel Prize laureate and Spanish writer Serra said that the common language in the future world would be English, Chinese, Spanish and Arabic. Everyone believes that if this prophecy comes to fruition, then the first foreign language in the United States will be Chinese. Because from the population, culture, economic strength and overall national strength, Chinese is bound to become a strong language, non-Western, Arabic comparable, although Spanish is still the United States’s first foreign language.
