Over the years, the blasting industry has argued that the delay interval of 8 ms is the minimum delay required for independent initiation of the kits between segments. However, a computer analysis of the seismographic records of several open pit explosions shows that a minimum delay interval of 8 ms is often not sufficient to isolate the detonation vibrations of each section. Sometimes a combination of short delay times and low-frequency vibrations can result in an increase in the amplitude of the blasting vibration. Seismic recording analysis of a single blasthole blast can be used to predict the delay interval to enhance or reduce blasting vibration effects.
