Woman A: That a Kindle?
Man A: Yeah.
The new literary debate plays out in this commercial by Kindle.(In a Commercial)
Woman A: 1)This can hold two books, two newspapers, three magazines.
Man A: My Kindle holds up to 3,500 books.
E-readers, like the Kindle and the iPad, are tearing people away from page-turners. It’s one reason 2)Borders is closing.
Man B: The printed word is now sharing the…the spotlight with electronic and…and digital representation.
Just ask 13-year-old Kirsten Campbell.
Kirsten (Customer): I love books.
But does she prefer real or digital?
Kirsten: Kindle, probably. It’s easier to read.
Reporter: Why do you like the Kindle better?
Kirsten: They’re cheaper. The books are cheaper, and they’re just fun to play with.
The digital conversion is a familiar tune at Mojo Books and Music. To make a profit, they battle E-readers with used books and MP3s with 3)vinyl records.

Lauren (Customer): I prefer paperbacks. It’s…I don’t know, I guess I got it from my grandmother. I like the smell, I like the reading, I like the turning of the pages.
There are so many options now, from Kindles to bookstores on your cell phone. It has a lot of people wondering about the future of the printed word. But that’s the key word in this conversation, the “future.”Woman B: It’s not, you know, some horrible 6)apocalyptic 7)harbinger of the end of the book or anything like that. You know, some people might want to make it out to be. It’s…it’s a market change.
And even though Lauren Huddleston says she’s concerned about bookstores that are closing, she’s not worried about closing the cover on a book.
Lauren: Literature has been around from day one. It’ll…it’ll never go anywhere.
