Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) is a major complication after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and is the leading cause of non-recurrent death after transplantation, limiting the widespread use of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Interleukin 17 (IL-17) and its receptor play an important role in the pathogenesis of infections, autoimmune diseases and tumors. However, the role of IL-17 and its receptors in the progression of GVHD remains uncertain . IL-17 is expressed in both serum and GVHD-injured tissues of mice and transplant patients, and recruits inflammatory cells such as neutrophils and T cells to mediate inflammatory responses, thereby damaging target tissues and organs. This article reviews the general characteristics of GVHD, IL-17 and their receptors and their role in GVHD.
