形临,即写实地临写字帖,注重形似,是向经典法帖学习技法语言的途径,以此获得原碑帖的笔法运作技巧和结字方法。形临是学习技法的阶段,那就意味着临帖时要严格按照原帖法则来写。一要笔法准确,二要结构准确。总之形临的终极目标是准确无误地再现原帖。所谓意临,实质上也就是得原帖意蕴神采。大凡有所成就的书法家,对传统的学习皆以意临为之,多以自己的书法语言特色来再现原帖的风神,若这时书家对原贴的理解能够达到神思散逸的程度,临作或许更精妙。意临在拟其意态风神的基础上,可以夸张笔画粗细对比以及结字的疏密、欹侧,使它更充满生机。
