July 15, 2011, Zhang Shangwu, a former world champion in gymnastics, was reported on the street for “selling art” and got people’s attention on how retired athletes make a living. In fact, the case of Zhang Shangwu is not a special case. For most of the graduates in the physical education schools, they have a low level of education and lack certain cultural knowledge and technical skills. They are still less competitive in terms of employment than other secondary school graduates. Under the current harsh environment for employment, students often lose their way after graduation. Therefore, in the current circumstances, one of the better choices for PE graduates is to enter institutions of higher learning to upgrade their knowledge and skills so as to find a way out for cultural studies.
