Established in 1956, Beijing General Research Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (BGRIMM) was originally called Research and Design Institute of Mineral Processing, attached to the Ministry of Metallurgical Industry. In the early 1958, it was renamed Research Institute of Mineral Processing and moved to the present site: 1 Wenxing St. Xizhimenwai, Beijing, China. In the late 1960 it was amalgamated with the Geological Research Institute under the same Ministry and called Research Institute of Mines. Later on, in 1963 the Geological Research Institute split off, and the Research Department of the Design Institute of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy and part of the personnel with equipment in relation to heavy non-ferrous metals of
