美国浪漫主义时期作家纳撒尼尔·霍桑的长篇小说《红字》多次被改编成电影。本文对《红字》进行影像阐释,所要评论的是由拉里·达莫尔作为制片人,罗伯特·G.维格诺拉导演的黑白电影。电影版的《红字》弥漫着清教思想,同时隐含着新英格兰超验主义的个人主义思想,女主人公海斯特自我救赎的行为体现了这一思想。本文分析电影《红字》中的清教思想及海斯特。清教徒与清教思想“‘清教徒’一词始于16世纪60年代,指英国中产阶级
American romanticist Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel ”The Scarlet Letter“ has repeatedly been adapted into a movie. This article illustrates the ”Scarlet Letter“ in terms of images, with the commentary being on the black-and-white film directed by Larry Dammore as producer, Robert G. Vignerla. The film’s ”Scarlet Letter“ permeates Puritanism and at the same time implies the individualism of New England Transcendentalism. The heroine Hester’s self-redemption reflects this idea. This article analyzes Puritanism and Hester in the movie Scarlet Letter. Puritans and Puritan ideology ”’Puritans’ began in the 1660s, refers to the British middle class
