To investigate the effect of central noradrenaline (NE) neurons excitability on brain edema, the authors observed changes in brain water content in the ipsilateral cerebral hemispheres after stimulating or damaging the right plaque of rats. As a result, the NE neurons in the ipsilateral hemisphere were also excited at the time of NE neuron excitation. The levels of NE and epinephrine in the brain reached 307.46% and 299.41% respectively in the normal group. The brain water content ( 79.21 ± 0.28%) than the normal group (78.46 ± 0.42%) (P <0.01). Damage to the blue plaque, the ipsilateral hemispheric NE, E content was only 12.80% and 32.31% of the normal group, a slight decrease in brain water content, without statistical significance. It is suggested that the excitability of NE neurons in the central nervous system may be one of the important links in the process of brain edema.
