Objective To investigate the expression of p53, bcl-2 and bax proteins and their relationship with the malignancy of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL). Methods The protein expression of p53, bcl-2 and bax in 62 NHLs was detected by immunohistochemistry. Results The expression rates of p53 and Bcl-2 protein, the intensity of expression and the density of positive cells increased with the malignant degree of NHL. The expression of p53 and Bcl-2 protein in patients with low grade malignant tumors was significantly lower than that in moderate and high grade malignant tumors (P <0.01) (P> 0.05). In contrast, the expression of Bax protein in the low-grade group was significantly higher than that in the moderate-grade group and the high-grade group (P <0.01). Conclusion The abnormal regulation of apoptosis may play an important role in the occurrence and development of NHL. The expression of NHL is closely related to the malignant degree of NHL.
