At this moment, we are at a historic turning point since human beings realized that language was at stake. The seminar was very timely. Future linguistic historians will surely consider the 1990s as a decade of great change, as the language crisis was introduced at the forefront of academic and political attention during the decade. In fact, what we have been trying to do in less than a decade since 1990 has been a phenomenal success - the language crisis has come to be systematically addressed through far-sighted papers and publications; especially Endangered Languages Symposium organized by the American Language Institute in 1991 (see Kraus, 1992).
