1983年,英MBB公司的Augburg工厂采用Ti6A14V通过超塑性成形工艺制出了1米长的试验性飞机进气管。通常,该构件是由16个冲压件采用5000个铆钉和连接带组装而成。为了保证铆钉周围缝隙的良好密封,还需采用好几公斤的防水复合密封涂料。而采用钛合金超期性成形制成的进气管不仅重量要轻得多,且由于是一整体结构政密封良好。另外,产品质量均匀一致,成形后除稍加精整外不需任何处理加工。
In 1983, British MBB’s Augburg plant used the Ti6A14V to produce a 1-meter pilot air intake through a superplastic forming process.
