A technique for calculating the shape of light sensing elements in a line array is described. The described method calculates the size of a detector that produces a high signal-to-noise ratio at the high spatial frequency limits of the array. This detector proves to be wider than the array. The special cases of parallel and perpendicular to the array and equal signal-to-noise ratios are derived.
