“It's not an earthquake, but a building that kills people.” This is a famous saying in earthquake disaster science. In order to resist earthquakes, Japanese people made a lot of effort in housing construction. Wood Construction In Japan, more than 80% of ordinary residential buildings are made of wood, while high-rise buildings are mainly made of steel. In principle, the wood structure is a flexible structure, and its toughness is large. When the house is subjected to shaking caused by seismic action, the wood structure can absorb and release energy well and can not easily scatter and loosen. As in the 1995 Kobe earthquake, most of the remaining houses were wooden houses.
