Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy and safety of acupuncture and hormonal therapy in the acute stage of Bell’s palsy. METHODS: Clinical randomized controlled trials of acupuncture and moxibustion for the treatment of acute Bell’s paralysis, such as PubMed, the Cochrane Library, CBM database, and CNKI database, were searched. The quality of the Cochrane review manual 4.26 combined with Jadad was evaluated and RevMan 4.2.6 was used for statistical analysis. Results: Four articles met the inclusion criteria and a total of 316 patients. Meta-analysis showed acupuncture treatment of acute paralysis control hormone-based treatment, no significant difference between groups was statistically significant. Combined RR [random effects model] = 1.11, 95% CI (0.99, 1.25), Z = 1.80, P = 0.07. CONCLUSION: There is no difference in the cure rate between acupuncture and hormones during the acute phase of Bell’s paralysis, but there may be a tendency to shorten the course of treatment, which needs further evidence from high-quality evidence.
