句子成分有主次之分,这是公认的事实。主语、谓语是主干成分,定语、状语、补语是非主干成分,对此也无异义。我们争论的焦点集中在宾语能否作句子的主干成分上。要弄清宾语在句上的地位,我们认为首先要解决两个问题。第一,什么是句子的主干?划分主干成分和非主干成分的标准是什么?关于句子主干的定义,教材认为:“主干就是把所有的定语、状语、补语都压缩下来之后余下的部分”,据此,宾语当然是句子的主干成分。这个定义的优点是简便实用,能使我们一下子就辨认出句子的主干。如:
It is a well-established fact that the composition of a sentence has a primary and secondary meaning. Subject, predicate is the main component, attribute, adverbial, complement is a non-backbone component, which is no different.
