The authors extracted peptides and amino acid derivatives from urine and 119 components were isolated to screen for their effects on cell growth and DNA synthesis. As a result, the higher concentration of 100% can inhibit the growth of tumor cells, while the inhibition of normal cells is very small, no significant effect on isolated animal organs. Free-flow electrophoresis of peptides and amino acid derivatives isolated from the urine was used to isolate two major classes of compounds that inhibited single and specific tumors; the other had broad-spectrum anti-tumor effects. The latter is called antineoplaston A and A_1, A_2, A_3, A_4 and A_5 were obtained by further purification of A by preparing a high pressure liquid phase.
