黄色的沙丘连绵不断,碎石狼藉的戈壁一片紧接一片,全年干热异常,绝大部分地方没有河流,寸草不生,常常飞沙走石,尘暴肆虐……这些可怕的景象,就在令人闻之色变的撒哈拉——世界最大的沙漠。撒哈拉的面积同澳大利亚差不多,横跨非洲大陆北部、大西洋与红海之间。“撒哈拉”一词是阿拉伯语,原意指一块广阔的不毛之地,或指一种象征死亡的颜色,后来转意为大荒漠。
