出宣武门不远,路西第二个路口是达智桥胡同。进了达智桥,往南头一条胡同便是校场头条。顺着头条走上一半,就会见到两株高大挺拔的合欢树窜出小院的一袭灰墙,绿叶丛中露出团团粉红色绒乎乎的小花,散发出阵阵淡淡的花香,让半条胡同都清爽起来。那绿云映掩的小院就是我的父亲——吴晓铃先生的故居。他的书斋“双棔书屋”便得名于院中那两株合欢树。早在三十年代中期父亲就读北京大学时,就开始买书了,他遍访海王邨书肆和厂甸以及宣武门内外小市上的旧书摊儿,遇到自己需要的好书,价格合宜,手头又有钱,便立即买下来。但当时的穷学生和后来的穷助教,更多的时候仅是爱不释手的翻阅“以解馋涎”,因为那令人咋舌的价目,常使父亲的购买热忱
