学英语的中国学生到了高级阶段大都有这样一种苦恼:学过的单词在新的上下文出现时,原来的意义用不上,不解其意;经查词典或请教别人弄清其意思后,再次遇到这个单词出现在另一个新的上下文中时,又不解其意(不懂的次数有多有少,因人因词而异)。总觉得这些单词的意义太“活”,难以掌握。我把这种现象作为英语教学中一个需要研究解决的问题,而通俗地称之为“老不懂”问题。造成“老不懂”的原因大致有二,现分述如下:
The Chinese students who learn English have had such an annoyance at the advanced stage: When the learned words appear in the new context, the original meaning cannot be used and their meaning is not understood; after searching the dictionary or asking others to clarify its meaning, When the word is encountered again in another new context, it does not understand its meaning (how many times do not understand, because people vary from word to word). Always feel that the meaning of these words is too “living” and difficult to grasp. I regard this phenomenon as a problem that needs to be studied and solved in English teaching, and colloquially referred to as the “old do not understand” problem. There are roughly two reasons why “old people don’t understand”. They are as follows:
