The famous American architect Bruce Graham (referred to as G) has been one of the backbone leaders of the SOM Chicago office for the past 40 years and is also known as the design authority of high-rise buildings in the United States. After the Second World War, many people followed the monotonous structural model of the Mies school, but the works were far from the wonderfulness of Mies. As a result, Graham took a different path and became a practitioner of high-rise construction who was keen on new structures. He believes: “Our buildings must begin to acquire new forms of freshness and freedom, and must deal with more simple and real-world construction.” Graham founded the so-called “Second Chicago School” in 1965 at the Hancock Center. Some of the tower skyscrapers were designed to play a leading role. He left the SOM office a year ago and at the age of 66 he is starting a new start.
