鬼臼为小蘖科鬼臼属（桃儿七属）植物。学名为:（Sinopodophyllum emodi（Wall.）Ying原名:podophyllumemodi wall.var.chinensis Sprague主产于我省临夏、和政、夏河、碌曲及兰州等地。药典名:桃儿七。别名:果果肚、小叶莲、鸡素苔等。《神农本草经》谓其“解百毒”,《名医别录》谓其“疗咳嗽喉结”,《本草纲目》谓其“下死胎,治邪疟,痈疽,蛇毒,射工毒。”
