为确保甲壳素医用敷料在临床上的安全使用，用甲壳素医用敷料生理盐水浸提液分别对大鼠经尾静脉和小鼠经口的急性毒性试验、家免原发性皮肤刺激试验、溶血试验及豚鼠皮肤致敏试验。发现甲壳素医用敷料生理盐水浸提液经大鼠尾静脉注射，小鼠经口灌胃试验剂量均为５ｍｌ·ｋｇ－１（相当于８００ｃｍ２），在观测期内未见明显中毒症状及死亡；家免原发性皮肤刺激试验显示对皮肤无明显刺激作用；溶血试验提示平均溶血率为１．４％，对兔血细胞无溶血作用；对豚鼠皮肤无致敏作用。认为甲壳素医用敷料为一种安全的临床手术敷料替代品。
