The extracts of Lycopus europaeus L. and Lithospermum office-nale L. from Lamiaceae plant Lithospermum office-nale L. are oxidized by plant enzymes and have anti-gonadotropic activity. The main component of these plants, caffeic acid, also showed anti-gonadotropic activity when oxidized with potassium permanganate. Attempts to separate active ingredients from crude plant extracts have been unsuccessful due to their low content and instability in crude extracts.
