垂体瘤虽然早在1772年Saucerott氏就描叙了这种疾病,但对垂体瘤临床综合征认识比较清楚,还是在19世纪末和20世纪初。Cushing氏在这方面做了大量的工作,他在1912年发表了一篇重要的论文“垂体和它的疾病”。自此之后许多学者对垂体瘤的临床表现、病理生理、治疗等方面进行了广泛地研究。垂体瘤是颅内一种常见的良性肿瘤,其发病率仅次于胶质瘤和脑膜瘤,国外资料Cushing氏17.8％,Northfield氏10.3％,Biemond氏11％,国内资料11％,本院材料为11.8％。
