The contents of Cu, Pb, Zn and Cd.Cr in 70 sediments were tested by atomic absorption spectrometry on the basis of continuous sampling and observation of tidal flat in Shanghai in March, July and October 1998. The results show that: (1) The contents of heavy metals in Shanghai tidal flat are as follows: Zn> Cu> Cr> Pb> Cd. (2) The content of heavy metals decreases from high tide beach to low tide beach. (3) Different sampling locations have a significant impact on the content of heavy metals. (4) Due to the seasonal changes, the content of heavy metal elements also varies greatly. Based on the statistical data of three seasonal data of Donghai Farm, the seasonal variations have a significant effect on the content of Cu and the effect on Zn, Pb and Cr Followed by, but basically no effect on Cd. (5) The heavy metal pollution of tidal flat surface sediments in Shanghai coastal area is dominated by Cu, Pb and Zn, while the tidal flat is heavily polluted.
