In order to study the effect of ladle calcium treatment on the non-metallic inclusions in austenitic stainless steel, this experiment hot-rolled into a strip of OCr_ (18) Ni_9 stainless steel with ladle calcium treatment and no calcium treatment. The morphology, chemical composition, phase composition, quantity and distribution of non-metallic inclusions in steel were extensively studied by means of optical microscope, X-ray diffraction, electron probe and image analyzer. The results show that the inclusions in the steel without calcium treatment are large-size inclusions mainly composed of manganese silicate and chromite-manganese spinel, and are mostly distributed in a string shape. After the ladle calcium treatment, the main inclusions in the steel are fine spot-like calcium aluminate, calcium silicate and silica dispersedly distributed. Therefore, ladle calcium treatment not only improves the morphology and distribution of non-metallic inclusions in stainless steel, but also changes the composition of the inclusions and significantly reduces the total amount of inclusions in the steel.
