近代日本洋画家岸田刘生(1891-1929)故后70多年来,日本美术史界对他的研究从未间断。岸田刘生的著作和关于他的各种画集、评传和记录被出版,《中央美术》、《画室》、《艺术新潮》、《现代的眼》、《三彩》等著名的文艺期刊上发表过关于岸田其人其艺的专题文章近百篇,岸田的个人作品展也多次举办。尤其是在刘生去世50年之际,东京和京都的两个国立近代美术馆举办了岸田刘生“没后五十年纪念展”,前来画展的参观者多达三十余万,人们再一次被刘生的作品和蕴藏其中的艺术精神深深感动。但是对中国人来说,岸田刘生还是个陌生的名字。
