Edmund Wilson, by his own efforts, broadened the scope of criticism of Russian literary studies in the United States and raised its overall standard. Starting from the worldwide, nationality and originality, Wilson strives to highlight Pushkin’s outstanding artistic achievements. And the controversy with Nabokov about the translation of “Yevgeny Onegin” implies the critique of the identity of the critics as well as the relationship between literature and politics. Based on Pushkin’s research, Wilson, based on his own position of building American civilization, paid attention to the interaction of history, individuality, society and literature and formed his own unique concept of Russian literature under the “red imagination” of the socialist Soviet Union.
