在当今从事中国画创作的女画家之中,李雅然可谓是一位个性鲜明的书画多面手。她早期热衷于意笔水墨花鸟的创作,据说被央美同学赐封“铁巾”“七彩禅指”的封号,之后又潜心于工笔画的表现。其间出于对色彩表现的兴致与追求,还专心学习了以矿物色使用为核心的重彩画表现。除此之外,她对传统表现技法中颇为罕见的指画(以手指代替毛笔作画)亦有钻研,她在指画高其佩、潘天寿、李苦禅等大师的指画传承下进一步地改革,并用心创出七彩斑斓、夺目优雅、其彰显生动、自然野趣、具有传奇色彩
