Atlantic cod is a species that the U.S. government has administered to colonial settlers. In recent years, the number of cod in the Atlantic has been declining year by year. Although some fishing activities have been limited, the effect is not obvious. Andrew Pershing, a scientist at Portland’s Maine Bay Institute, led a research team that conducted an in-depth study of the situation and eventually found the culprit: warming. In recent years, this rapid and abnormal warming has a profound impact on the spawning and living conditions of cod in the Gulf of Maine. According to statistics, from 2003 to 2014, the world’s fastest-rising temperature region is the Maine Bay.
