冯梦龙是以严肃的创作意图、正统的道德观念投入《醒世恒言·金海陵纵欲亡身》的创作的，可结果《金海陵纵欲亡身》却落得个诲淫的指责，这主要是因为作品有主题与具体描写的背反现象。造成作品主题与具体描写的背反的原因概括起来大致有四点：一是晚明社会纵欲放荡的社会风气与作者匡时世、济民心的责任感的冲突；二是作者的文化心理结构本身就是矛盾的综合体；三是作者婚姻伦理化与情感自然化爱情观本身的不可调和；四是作者作为男性，其性心理中有着矛盾冲突的一面。
