Introduction of 7-methyl group into the steroid molecule usually causes enhancementand/or modification of parent hormonal activity.For example,7α,17α-dimethyl-19-nor-testosterone 1 has significant contragestative activity and is lack of estrogenicity.The paperconcerned with the total synthesis of these 7-methyl steroids seems dealing only with thesynthesis of 7-methyl aromatic steroids 2 by using the optically active indanone derivative3 as starting material. Introduction of 7-methyl group into the steroid molecule usually causes enhancement and / or modification of parent hormonal activity. For example, 7α, 17α-dimethyl-19-nor-testosterone 1 has a significant contragestative activity and is lack of estrogenicity. The paperconcerned with the total synthesis of these 7-methyl steroids seems dealing only with the synthesis of 7-methyl aromatic steroids 2 by using the optically active indanone derivative 3 as starting material.
