The Soviet Union conducted another anti-satellite interception test on March 14, 1981. Such tests have been conducted twice in the past six weeks. The U.S. Defense Department considers the two tests may be successful. So-called “may be successful” means no more than 8 kilometers (4.9 miles) of intercepting satellites passing through the target aircraft. The previous definition is not more than 1 km. Of course, meeting the above criteria does not guarantee the complete success of the interception test.
