Reinforced earth is a soil-strengthening technology invented by the French engineer H. Vidal. Because of its series of advantages, all kinds of reinforced earth projects constructed in various countries in the world have witnessed rapid development within 20 years. Basically, these works can be grouped into three categories: reinforced earth retaining walls for various purposes; dikes without wall retaining walls on slopes; and filling foundations and subgrade under embankments and ground. The most important feature of reinforced soil is the use of its friction force generated by the surface of the soil particles and soil friction, so that the strain around the soil reinforcement is limited, thereby enhancing the mechanical properties of soil. About reinforced earth retaining wall and reinforced earth embankment, there are different degrees of introduction, here only on the strength of reinforced earth and reinforced earth foundation for a review.
