The characteristics of a wavelength tunable, picosecond self-modelocked Ti:Al2O3 laser, pumped by a frequency-doubled modelocked Nd:YAG laser, are studied experimentally. A stable self-modelocked pulse train of 29ps pulse duration(FWHM) is obtained. The output peak power is more than 20 MW and the maximum laser-to-laser conversion efficiency is of 32.5% at 790nm, with the energy instability less than 4%.The output wavelength can tune continuously in the range of 680-980nm and extended to 350-480 nm by using a BBO crystal as second harmonic generation element.
