中国古典美学的突出特征之一，便是追求人生的诗性生存，人的生活的审美化、艺术化，艺术自然便成为人的生命存在的一种特殊方式。在中国传统文化中，文学艺术从根本上讲并非是一种为艺术而艺术的存在，而是成为解决人生价值和意义问题的一种重要的手段与方式。通过艺术去思考人生的诗化，通过艺术去实践人生的诗化。艺术使有限的生命寻得永恒的家园，一方面艺术成为传统士人精神生命自娱、获得内在圆满自足的精神境界的方式；另一方面艺术也是传统士人于有限中把握无限、于短暂生命中追求不朽的重要方式。
