The Mid-Miocene climatic suitable period (ca.15 ~ 17Ma) is a short-term climate warm event under the Cenozoic climate change. Due to the lack of terrestrial records, the current research on this event mostly comes from marine drilling. High-resolution palaeomagnetic dating (about 270 m in thickness) and geochemical studies (with a section thickness of about 400 m) have been carried out in the lacustrine strata of Wenshan Basin in southeastern Yunnan.
