李燕蓉的“小长篇”《出口》,是一部具有明显精神叙事特征的长篇小说。通过一个人为设计的出走事件,李燕蓉表达了一种现实和历史的精神迷茫感觉,一种发自内心深处的精神困惑。一方面,她固然是在表达个人的精神迷茫,但另一方面,这种精神迷茫却又是属于每一个现代人的,是当下时代一种普遍的精神困境。究其根本,李燕蓉借助于碎片化的小说情节结构,对早已呈碎片化状况的现代人的精神世界进行了精准深入的艺术表现。
