目前我国报业市场进入了一个前所未有的激烈竞争时期,定位于市民的都市类报刊异军突起,“入世”后,传媒“海外兵团”涉足中国市场也已成定局。在新的形势面前,地处政治经济文化新闻事业发达地区的《新华日报》遵循与时俱进的时代要求,坚持确立以打造新型机关报刊、争做传递党的声音的更有效载体为办报宗旨;直面中国媒体在新的历史时期、尤其是我国加入WTO后的新机遇和新挑战,努力铸造强势媒体,做大做强党报事业,健笔谱写当代党报工作者实践“三个代表”的宏伟篇章。在近期的实践中,该报坚持机制创新、体制创新、观念创新三位一体,对创新党报的宣传报道又做出了新一轮的大胆尝试和有益探索。
