The cutaneous leishmaniasis is a protozoal disease in tropical South America, especially in the forests of the Amazon. The vines of Doliocarpus are widely grown in the Amazon region. The juice from the plants can be used to quench their thirst. Indigenous blacks in Suriname treat the leishmaniasis with their stem powder.
