中国传统绘画的创作,有着特定的性别倾向,常见题材是清一色的男性,女性的出场只不过是作为男性霸权的表征。这种男性主导的偏见,已经深深植根于中国传统思想命脉中。儒家圣人孟子就曾说过:“男女授受不亲”。其结果是女性不允许和她直系家族之外的异性交往。家庭内外的界线极其分明。辛亥革命之前,这种性别隔离一直是社会固守的习俗。在这种限制之下,没有一个男性画家试图以居家的女性作为人体或肖像模特儿。
The creation of traditional Chinese painting has a specific gender orientation. Common themes are all men, and women’s appearances are only indicative of masculine hegemony. This male-dominated prejudice has been deeply rooted in the lifeblood of Chinese traditional thought. Mencius, a Confucian sage, once said: “Men and women give and refuse to kiss.” The result is that women do not allow heterosexual interactions with her immediate family. The boundaries between home and abroad are extremely clear. Before the Revolution of 1911, such segregation of sex had always been a social custom. Under this restriction, none of the male painters tried to use the women in the home as human or portrait models.
