The project of soil erosion and control of granite in Guangdong Province co-financed by the Guangdong Provincial Government and the Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC) is implemented by the Guangzhou Institute of Geography and the Department of Geography, University of Toronto. The cooperation units include the Department of Geography, South China Normal University, Agricultural Commission of Qingxian County, Department of Geography, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Department of Geography, University of Melbourne, Canada. The research project started in April 1986 and a large-scale pilot station has now been established in Deqing County. There are 2 dams, 8 collapsible observation points, 18 surface erosion observation points and 6 erosion observation points for observing the loss of water, sediment and nutrients; 3 climate observation stations and 8 rainfall observation points To observe the microclimate difference in different aspect and different vegetation conditions; 1 indoor artificial rainfall simulation laboratory for observing the impact strength of rainwater on the soil.
