Large number of pharmaceutical applications of Chitosan have been studied and reported during last two decades.However few of observations inspired us to study and explore the clinical applications of this abundant natural resource.Chitosan,most promising candidate for development of useful therapeutic tool,lacks irritant or allergic effects and is biodegradable and biocompatible.Some therapeutic applications include use of Chitosan as wound healing,haemostatic,antifungal,antiviral,anticoagulant,immunostimulant,weight loss aid,tissue-engineering aid etc.We have evaluated Chitosan-Iodine complex for its synergistic acceleration of wound healing activity in rats using excision wound model.Results revealed significant increase in wound contraction with decreased period of epithelisation,indicating potency of complex for synergistic wound healing.In our laboratory we have studied that Chitosan based gel enhanced the anti-inflammatory activity of known herbal anti-inflammatory agents.
