今年硕士研究生入学考试《英语试题》中的第Ⅶ题英译汉选材合适,文章不难理解,但考生要在有限时间内译得正确通顺并不容易.参考答案的译法看来比较侧重于英汉字面上求得一致,这样做对衡量考生答题带来了方便.但从另一方面来看,通过上下文分析进行理解和翻译尚有些欠缺,以致有的句子译得不尽完美,个别地方甚至词不达意.我们认为,规定要译的句子既然置于文章之中,就应该从整篇文章理解的基础上进行正确翻译.这里,笔者对照参考答案译文,冒昧地提出不同的看法和译法,以求诸于同行专家指正.
