TED是一个缩写,它代表技术(technology)、娱乐(entertainment)与设计(design)。TED大会诞生于1984年,其发起人是理查德·沃曼(RichardWurman)。2002年起,克里斯·安德森(Chris Anderson)接管TED大会。他创立了种子基金会(The Sapling Foundation),TED大会就是由这一非盈利性机构支持举办的。每一年的三月,众多科学家、设计师、文学家和音乐家等各领域的杰出人物于美国聚首一堂,在TED大会上分享他们关于技术、社会、人文的思考和探索。U2乐队主唱Bono、美国前总统Bill Clinton、微软前总裁Bill Gates都曾于TED大会上获颁TED大奖。

What makes TED-sters 1)tick? This is really a two-hour presentation I give to high school students, cut down to three minutes. And it all started one day on a plane, on my way to TED, seven years ago. And in the seat next to me was a high school student, a teenager, and she came from a really poor family. And she wanted to make something of her life. And she asked me a simple little question: she said, what leads to success? And I felt really badly, because I couldn’t give her a good answer. So I get off the plane and I come to TED. And I think, 2)geez, I’m in the middle of a room of successful people. So why don’t I ask them what helped them succeed and pass it on to kids? So here we are, seven years, 500 interviews later and I’m going to tell you what really leads to success and makes TED-sters tick.
And the first thing is Passion.
TED-sters do it for love, they don’t do it for money. Carol Colleta says, “I would pay someone to do what I do.” The interesting thing is, if you do it for love, the money comes anyway.
Work.
Rupert Murdoch said to me, “It’s all hard work. Nothing comes easily. But I have a lot of fun.” Did he say fun?! Rupert? Yes, TED-sters do have fun working, and they work hard. I figure they’re not 3)workaholics, they’re 4)workafrolics.
Good.
Alex Garden says, “To be successful, put your nose down in something and get damn good at it.” There’s no magic; it’s practice, practice, practice.
And it’s Focus.
Norma Jewison said to me, “I think it all has to do with focusing yourself on one thing.”
And Push.
David Gallo says, “Push yourself. Physically, mentally, you’ve gotta push, push, push.” You gotta push through shyness and self-doubt. Goldie Hawn says, “I always had self-doubts. I wasn’t good enough, I wasn’t smart enough, I didn’t think I’d make it.” Now, it’s not always easy to push yourself and that’s why they invented mothers. (Laugh) Frank Geary…Frank Geary said to me, “My mother pushed me.”
Serve.
Sherwin Nulan says, “It was a privilege to serve as a doctor.” Now a lot of kids tell me they want to be millionaires. And the first thing I say to them is, “OK, well you can’t serve yourself. You got to serve others something of value. Because that’s the way people really get rich.”
Ideas.
TED-ster Bill Gates says, “I had an idea: founding the first micro-computer software company.” I’d say it was a pretty good idea. And there’s no magic to creativity and coming up with ideas. It’s just doing some very simple things. And I give lots of evidence: (Following are words shown on screen)
“Listen. Observe. Be Curious. Ask Questions. Problem Solve. Make Connections.”
Persist.
Joe Kraus says, “Persistence is the number one reason for our success.” You got to persist through failure, you got to persist through CRAP, which of course means: Criticism, Rejection, Assholes and Pressure. (Laugh)
So, the big end. The answer to this question is simple: pay $4,000 and come to TED! Or failing that, do the big eight things that lead to success.

苦干。
鲁珀特·默多克曾经告诉过我:“都是得苦干。天下没有白吃的午餐,但是我得到了很多乐趣。”他提到了“乐趣”一词吗?鲁珀特说的?没错,TED演讲者都寓工作于娱乐,而且他们都很刻苦。我觉得,他们都不是工作狂,他们是工作玩家。
精通。
亚历克斯·加登说:“要想成功,就要做到深入其中,真正精通该领域。”没有诀窍,就是练习,练习,再练习。
还有就是专注。
诺尔马·朱伊森告诉我说:“我觉得获得成功,就要使得自己专注于一件事情。”
鞭策。

“聆听。观察。好奇。发问。解疑。交流。”
坚持。
