Objective: To study the effect and significance of rare earth elements on the tissue culture of medicinal plants. Methods: The medicinal plant Coptis chinensis was used to study the effects of different concentrations of rare earth compounds on the fresh weight gain and alkaloid content of callus. Results: 0.1mg · L-1Yb3 + and 1mg · L-1Eu3 + promoted the growth of callus, and high concentrations of rare earth compounds inhibited the growth. In subcultures on medium containing no rare earth compounds, the fresh weight gains of callus derived from rare earth compounds were lower than the control. Rare earth compounds affect the callus content of berberine, jatrorrhizine and palmatine. CONCLUSION: Low concentrations of rare earth compounds can promote the growth of Coptis chinensis callus. Both low and high concentrations of Yb3 + and Eu3 + have adverse effects on the subsequent subculture of Coptis chinensis. Yb3 + inhibited the accumulation of three alkaloids in callus, and 0.1 mg · L-1Eu3 + was beneficial to the accumulation of jatrorrhizine and palmatine
